Pool Rules & Regulations
To ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all members and guests, the following rules apply to everyone on Berkeley Swim Club grounds.
Health & Check-In

Please do not come to BSC if you are feeling sick.

Enter through the front gate and check in at the office.

Guests are welcome during the 2025 season and must follow all BSC rules.

Teen Memberships may not bring guests.
Supervision & Age Requirements

Children may sign themselves in beginning at age 12 with parental permission.

Members must be at least 16 years old to sign in and supervise younger family members.
-
Adults are responsible for supervising their children and ensuring all rules are followed.
Food & Picnic Area
-
Eating is permitted in the picnic area only.
-
Please clean up and dispose of all trash and recycling after use.

No alcohol or glass bottles/containers.
-
Snacks are available for purchase in the office.
Diving Board & Slide

All dives are permitted except inward dives.
-
Only one person may use the diving board or slide at a time.
-
Exit the dive tank on the same side after entering.
-
Games in the dive tank are at the discretion of the lifeguard and may be stopped at any time for safety reasons.
Deep Water Test (Required for Swimmers Under 12)
Swimmers under age 12 must pass a Deep Water Test to:

Swim past the lifeguard stand in the main pool
-
Enter the dive tank

Use the diving board or slide
Test Requirements:

Tread water for 1 minute
-
Swim freestyle (face down, breathing to the side) the length of the pool and back without stopping

Jump off the diving board and swim to the ladder
A parent must complete the Deep Water Test Waiver (via QR code at the office) before testing. Testing is conducted when a lifeguard is available. Swimmers who do not pass must wait one day before retesting. Approved swimmers must wear a deep water wristband. Replacement fee: $6.
Baby Pool

For children age 5 and under (see manager for medical exceptions).

Adult supervision is required at all times.

Swim diapers are required for all non–potty-trained children.
-
Small pool toys are permitted; please do not leave toys unattended.

Water shoes are recommended.
General Pool Rules
-
No running on the pool deck.
-
The lap lane is for lap swimming only. No loitering or hanging on lane lines.
-
Sports equipment may be borrowed from the office with a $1 deposit.
-
Water squirt guns are allowed on the grass only and must be filled at the hose. No squirt guns in the pool.
Flotation Devices

Only puddle jumpers and life jackets with front and back flotation are permitted.
-
No over-the-head inner tubes.
-
Parents must remain within arm’s length of children using flotation devices.
-
No flotation devices on the diving board or slide.
-
Large floats and rafts are permitted only during designated Raft Nights.
Safety & Conduct

Lifeguards are responsible for monitoring the water. Please do not distract them with non-water concerns; speak with the onsite manager instead.

All injuries, no matter how minor, must be reported to a lifeguard.

Access to Berkeley Swim Club is contingent upon following all rules and regulations.
